Lecture Summary, 18 February 2016

Solution composition measurements:  We discussed the most commonly used solution composition measurements such as concentration, mass percent, and mole fraction.  While it is important to be able to calculate accurately the solution composition using any of these definitions, it is more important to understand why a particular definition is more useful for a particular solution or problem, and to be able to move between different definitions efficiently.

Why solutions form: We also discussed intermolecular forces between different molecules to rationalize why some molecules will mix to form solutions and others will not.

I will save a review of ideal solutions for the next lecture.
